KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has kick-started his one-day official visit to Sabah with a tour of the new SK and SMK Pekan Telipok here.

Najib arrived at the novel schools – which are built within the same compound – accompanied by Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman and Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

Also present were Sabah Special Tasks Minister Datuk Teo Chee Kang and Sabah Education director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul.

The prime minister was welcomed with cheers from students and teachers, before he proceeded to tour the premises.

SK and SMK Pekan Telipok are the first two schools in Sabah with a 2-in-1 sharing model. They were previously operating in dilapidated buildings near Telipok town.

The new facility, which began operations on Feb 20, is built close to the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park.

After his visit to the school, Najib is slated to launch the Universiti Malaysia Sabah Hospital at the varsity, before attending a closed-door meeting with Sepanggar Umno leaders.

He is also scheduled to attend a 3pm grand gathering with federal and state civil servants at the Sabah Administrative Centre near here.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will grace a dinner with representatives of Sabah’s main ethnic groups, organised by the United Ethnic Bumiputera Council.
